Red Ribbon Club is a movement started by the Government of India in schools and colleges through which, students will spread awareness over HIV / AIDS. It envisages to instil charity mind among all the students to extend their able help towards developing healthy life styles, donating blood to all the needy by promotion of Regular voluntary blood donation.

Objectives

  • To create an awareness and to induce the spirit among youth to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) thereby reducing stigma and discrimination against PLHWAs.
  • To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills on leadership, negotiation, and team building.
  • To promote voluntary blood donation among youth.

On 27th of October 2010 we have inaugurated the Red Ribbon Club in Dhanalakahsmi Srinivasan College of Nursing, Perambalur. The inaugural function was organized in a grand manner, Dr.Elagovan, District Programme Manager, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, Collectorate, Perambalur was the Chief Guest of the function. He elaborated the birth of Red Ribbon Club and its importance. The Founder and Chairman Shri.A.Srinivasan, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Charitable and Educational Trust presided over the function he advised the students to be an active member of the club and not only to use their health education in the Mass or individual but also to implement in their daily approaches.

Mr.Selvaraju, RRC District Manager, Red Ribbon Club, Perambalur, organizer of the programme took the sessions very interestingly through out the day in a simple understanding language for the nursing students. The Finance Assistant Mr.Chellamuthu of AIDS Prevention and Control Unit of Perambalur District attended the function. 187 students and 13 teaching faculty participated in the programme and 212 students have got enrolled in the club.

The gathering was Welcomed by Mrs.K.Punithalakshmi, M.Sc (N), Principal Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Nursing and Mrs.S.Rani, M.Sc (N), Vice Principal delivered the vote of thanks.
